Silicone rubber is composed of silicone combined with carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Silicone rubbers have multiple formulations and in an uncured state is a gel or liquid with high adhesive properties. It is extremely resistant to heat and cold. It is durable and resistant and does well when exposed to UV light, sunlight, oxygen, ozone and moisture. With these properties it is easy to manufacture and shape making it ideal for a wide variety of products including automotive applications, cooking and food storage. It is also used in footwear, sportswear, electronics and medical devises and implants. Its weakness is that silicone’s are subject to tears and abrasions.
